Blank chars are horizontal whitespace. The ASCII blank characters are horizontal tab and space. Latin-1 adds the no-break space.
In Unicode, a blank character is either
- a character with the space separator category (Zs) in the Unicode character database.
- U+0009 Horizontal tabulation (\t control-I)
